Before you go into Pursuing your Passion read this!

Passion is a Car and Purpose is the Fuel.

-Daksh Haldhar

Passion is the gateway to get big. But there are many myths which burst while I was reading and researching about Passion.

The number one lie I have heard is that passion is ‘the’ one thing you can do super well. Thank you, Mark and Tim, for bursting the balloon. This was the only time I tolerated a balloon being burst.

I really feel that *passion is overrated*.

Passion is just a hobby. You can have many passions as you can have many hobbies. And I really wish you have many hobbies to pick one special one.

There are certain questions which need to be addressed.

  1. WTF is Passion and Purpose?
  2. How to find our Passion and Purpose?

WTF is Passion and Purpose

Passion

When we do what we love, it is our passion and when this passion serve others and provides some value to the society, the value we provide becomes our purpose.

-Jay Shetty

When we talk about passion, it is often considered to be some rocket science but it isn’t.

We have certain habits we enjoy or certain things we do that we enjoy doing which is basically our passion.

And it doesn’t necessarily need to be just one thing. This world has tricked us into believing that we can only have one passion.

An example is Mark Manson who has his passion for writing and even video gaming. He chose to improve his writing skills. Had he chosen video gaming then maybe we would have been looking at one of the best gamers of all time.

Virat Kohli could have been a singer or a trainer. Anything could have been possible. But he chose Cricket and is one of the best Athletes the world has ever known.

You need to pick up something you are good and work a lot at it in order to become great at it.

Purpose

Purpose, as said by Jay, is the fuel which will make you work hard on your craft to provide some value to this world.

I believe that the very purpose of life is to be happy. From the very core of our being, we desire contentment. In my own limited experience I have found that the more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being.

– Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso

Purpose to me is a way of giving everything for the betterment of this universe and its individuals. When we have a higher purpose we tend to work hard and flow is being observed in the work we are doing and it enables us to confront our best version and become a person of value to this world.

A.P.J. Abdul Kalam talks about this flow and he says that when you are following your purpose through your passion, you get closer to your real-self or your higher self.

That is when your best work is observed.

Without Purpose we lack direction.

– Jay Shetty

How to Find them?

The First Myth we need to bust is that we need to look in the outside world to understand what are our passions and purposes.

No sir. We have to look inside us. We need to get closer to our soul. Again, not rocket science.

We can google,” How to find your Purpose?” And a bunch of videos and articles will pop up giving you advice regarding the job opportunities in 5 years rather than telling you the ways to find it in you.

We can google many different questions but cannot google our emotions and our reactions. That we need to observe in ourselves. Self-Awareness game needs to be strong’af.

Ways to look into ourselves includes –

Meditation

A Super Motivating Picture of a Girl Meditating(or is she)

This again is a mundane practice but very enriching.

Basically, it means to be present in the moment with your present thoughts and not thinking about past relationship traumas or the unexpected atrocities of the future.

It will largely align your thoughts and make you feel and find the things you are good at.

Keeping a Journal

This is my favourite things to do when I need to find spiritual answers and want to know myself better.

It is a great way to clear doubts.

You can ask any question and then try to answer keeping honesty at the apex.

Self-Awareness-

I have experienced this thing so it is much easier and exciting for me to talk about it.

Think of the way your body and mind reacts when you are doing different things.

When I talk about self-self-awareness and motivation and when I am writing these blogs, I get a sensation of accomplishment and my face automatically gets a smile on it.

In the same way, you should observe the way your body reacts to thoughts and words. Do you smile? Do you get excited?

It is a really amazing way to get to your passion.

Trial and Error

If you were supposed to know which direction to go or what choices to make you would have been given a map, but that ain’t the case is it?

-David Rock

Even after getting close to your soul, you need to try many things in order to observe the way in which your body reacts to them.

It is essential. Don’t get into the mindset of getting into one thing for life.

Your passions, hobbies, purposes, goals, changes with time and age, so why should you do only one work throughout your life.

Pushing outside the ‘Comfort-Zone’

We constantly need to push ourselves in order to improve our skills we are passionate about.

It gives us a fair idea about how much we can improve and achieve while following our passion.

Reading

It can help you in refining your skills in all the spheres and can even help you make important decisions about your life with ease.

You can read fiction and even non-fiction.

Reading is Forced Meditation.

Doing Nothing

It might sound easy to you but in this digitally distracted age, it definitely isn’t.

Sitting there and staring at wall is boring but it is actually very productive for our creative brain.

Other things which you can include are listening to the clock ticking away, counting stars, counting tiles in the bathroom, and even observing people in a public place.

It is worth it.

All the thinking moves to the autopilot mode and the brain has to think creatively as it is the only way left to survive the boredom.

My favourite thing is questioning my life at every instance I can get and life always answers that I am an idiot. And as I am such an idiot I like it.

Conclusion

There are and can be more ways than I can imagine and write to find your passion. The question is whether you are making any moves towards finding them or not.

Feel free to write them down in the comment section.

Also, comment below if you are following your passion and have figured out your purpose.

If you haven’t already, then you don’t need to worry.

Just follow the process and trust it for a better future.
